3 Proposal Ideas They’ll Love From a Colorado Wedding Coordinator
Who doesn’t love a cute proposal story? While asking your partner to marry you can be a nerve-wracking experience while you wait for an answer, you and your soon-to-be-spouse will likely remember the event for the rest of your lives. There are endless ways you can pop the question, and choosing the right one depends on your relationship and your partner. If you’re in need of a little proposal inspiration to get your romantic ideas flowing, here are 3 proposals we’ve seen and loved (and even helped plan!) as wedding coordinators.
1. A Proposal That Made a Splash
Some proposals are so cute they could be a movie, and Lynn’s favorite proposal should be on the silver screen. Marine biologists Laura and Steve met while working at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Steve worked with dolphins and knew exactly how he wanted to make a splash with his proposal to Laura.
The couple were heading out for dinner after work when Steve asked Laura to meet him at the dolphin habitat. He wanted her to see the progress their newest dolphin, Einstein, had made. When Laura arrived, Einstein jumped high in the air, dived deep into the water, and came up with a training hoop on his snout. The hoop had writing on it with the big question. Attached (very securely) was a pouch containing the ring.
Laura was in shock. She said yes & Einstein earned extra fish for being Steve’s best mammal! While you may not have access to a dolphin, proposals that take advantage of your shared interests are extra memorable and can be a fun backdrop for engagement photos, too!
2. Dance Dance Proposal
Wanda’s favorite proposal was one she helped plan! In 2018, a young man called us to plan his proposal. He wanted a dancing flashmob. He took his girlfriend shopping at an outdoor mall so she wouldn't be suspicious. We arranged for a dance group in Denver to be set up in one of the common areas that he would lead her to. Friends and family were scattered about so they could hear their cue, and Wanda was in touch with him via text so we knew exactly when they would be strolling by.
It was epic. The boombox started playing the song "Marry You” and two teenagers began to dance. Then a few more dancers joined in and started singing along. Before the woman realized what was happening, her sister and best friend jumped into the scene. Next came more friends and family! He led her by the hand closer to the dancers and joined them. As you can imagine, she put her hands to her mouth in disbelief and laughed. When the song was over, he dropped to his knee and proposed. She said yes and they sealed it with a kiss!
Over-the-top proposals don’t work for every couple, especially if your dancing skills are rusty or your partner doesn’t like crowds, but a big event can be an exciting way to involve close family and friends. An important tip when it comes to a proposal before a crowd: make sure you’re on the same page with your partner about your future including marriage.
3. The Big Question in the Great Outdoors
With the stunning natural backdrops Colorado has to offer, you may not be surprised to hear that many of our clients pop the question in the great outdoors. We’ve had clients who proposed on the top of mountains, on beaches in Mexico, and in a tent on a camping trip. A proposal with a view can be an ideal way to pop the question without an audience. Asking someone you love to share your life can be an intimate, meaningful experience and doing so surrounded by nature can lend the occasion the beauty and reverence you’re looking for.
