Curating Your Wedding
Curating Your Wedding: Creating a Cohesive Look
There is a fine line between having a wedding that isn’t quite cohesive and having one that is too matchy matchy. You want all of your elements to compliment one another without them looking too cookie cutter. A wedding planner can help you create a cohesive wedding inspiration board and overall look, but there are a few other things you should consider as you are choosing your vendors and design elements along the way.
If you are feeling a little overwhelmed at the idea of curating your wedding, start with just your wedding colors or “vibe.” If you start with the basics, the rest of the design process won’t feel quite so overwhelming. If even that is stumping you, start by drawing inspiration from your venue or the season! If you are having a summer beach wedding, pastels might be a good option. If your wedding is in a cabin in the winter, a more earthy palette might suit you! Once you pick your palette, you can start deciding on other elements to bring in.
That being said, you don’t need to have an overarching “wedding theme” to have a cohesive wedding. If you LOVE flowers, your floral arrangements can set the scene for the rest of your decor (your florist can help talk you through this as well). If flowers aren’t your thing, pick other whimsical elements like feathers or jewels to start creating your look. Pinterest and other online platforms can help you to start visualizing what it is you actually love and don’t love. Once your vision is set, bring examples to every appointment and set your vendors on the right path!
Speaking of vendors, hiring professional vendors is imperative to curating a beautiful wedding. Choose a bakery that knows how to draw inspiration from your invitations or vice versa. Pick one or two elements that will be carried over into every aspect of the day from drinks to invitations to favors, then hire vendors who will pull it off seamlessly and who take note of your vision rather than doing their own thing.
It’s much less intimidating to create your wedding look one step at a time! Just keep your choices in mind the whole time rather than picking elements at random. Get creative, have fun, and you’ll be thinking like a designer in no time!
