Wedding Advice Brides Can Totally Ignore

Hey there, brides-to-be! If you're planning your wedding, you've probably heard a lot of unsolicited advice. Everyone has an opinion, but don't let anyone tell you how to have the wedding of your dreams! Here are some of the most common pieces of wedding advice that you should totally ignore:

1. It's all about the bride.

Um, no. It's about the couple! Your groom is just as important as you are, so don't forget to include him in all of the planning and decision-making. And don't be afraid to put your own spin on things. After all, it's your wedding!

2. You must have a cake.

Cake is delicious, but it's not a requirement. If you and your fiancé don't like cake, don't force it. There are plenty of other delicious desserts that you can serve at your wedding. Maybe you like pie, donuts, cookies, or ice cream. Whatever your favorite dessert is, go for it!

3. The bride should wear white.

Who says? White is a classic color for wedding dresses, but it's not the only option. There are beautiful wedding dresses in every color imaginable. If you've always dreamed of wearing a pink wedding dress, go for it! Or maybe you want to wear a black or gothic wedding dress. Whatever your style is, there's a wedding dress out there that's perfect for you.

4. Don't skip any traditions.

Traditions are great, but you don't have to follow them all. If you don't want to do the garter toss or bouquet toss, don't do it. Or, maybe you want to put your own spin on a traditional ceremony. For example, instead of having a father-daughter dance, you could have a mother-daughter dance. Or, instead of having a Saturday wedding, you could have a Friday or Sunday wedding. Whatever you want to do, go for it!

5. You must be married by someone ordained.

In some states, this is true. But in other states, you can actually marry yourselves! This is called self-solemnization. And in some states, you can even have your dog sign your marriage license as a witness. (Seriously!) So, if you don't want to be married by a priest, minister, or rabbi, you don't have to be.

The most important thing is to have a wedding that you and your fiancé love. Don't let anyone tell you how to plan your wedding or what to do on your special day. It's your wedding, so do things your way!
